1. Piranti Masukan (Input Device)
2. Piranti Keluaran (Output Device).
Hal-hal yang perlu diperhatikan ketika akan memilih Piranti tersebut, antara lain:
A. Kondisi lingkungan, faktor keselamatan kerja, dan variasi dalam tugas dan hubungannya dengan pekerjaan yang lain harus dipertimbangkan saat memilih piranti dalam perancangan sistem informasi
B. Perlu diperhatikan karakteristik pengguna, karena pengguna dapat bervariasi dalam pengetahuan, ketrampilan, kemampuan, pengalaman, kebudayaan, dan gender
C. Perlu disesuaikan antara teknologi, pengguna, kerja yang diinginkan, dan lingkungan kerja
D. Cocok dengan karakteristik pengguna, keahlian, dan training yang pernah dilakukan
Salah satu kunci dalam membantu dalam pemilihan
Faktor Penentu Pemilihan Piranti Masukan yang Tepat:
(1) Cocok dengan karakteristik pengguna, keahlian, dan training yang pernah dilakukan;
(2) Sesuai dengan tugas yang akan dilakukan; dan
(3) Sesuai dengan maksud pekerjaan dan lingkungannya.
Tombol keyboard dikelompokkan menjadi 4 bagian:
1. Tombol Fungsi (Function Key),
2. Tombol Alphanumerik (Alphanumeric Key),
3. Tombol Kontrol (Control Key),
4. Tombol Numerik (Numeric Key),
Jenis-jenis Keyboard:
(1) Enhanced or Extended Keyboard (Typically 101 keys laid out in the QWERTY fashion; connected to the computer by a serial cable);
(2) Cordless Keyboard (Uses infrared or radio wave signals);
(3) Ergonomic Keyboard (Designed to help prevent Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD) or damage to nerve tissues in the wrist and hand due to repeated motion).
Perankat Audio diantaranya :
1. Mikropon adalah pengubahan variasi tekanan udara karena adanya suara, menjadi variasi isyarat listrik.
2. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), dimana pada sistem ASR ini dapat mengenali masukan berupa kata-kata dalam kalimat, sistem ini memiliki: penganalisis, pengklasifikasi pola, dan pemrosesan bahasa
.
Pointing Devices, piranti ini dapat digunakan untuk menunjuk suatu titik atau jalur pada
ruang 2-Dimensi atau 3-Dimensi, diantaranya :
1. Joystick,
2. Trackballs,
3. Mouse.
4. Light Pen,
5. Touchpad
6. Touch Screen
Scanner yang merupakan peranti yang dapat mengambil masukan data gambar, foto, bahkan juga tulisan tangan.

Piranti Keluaran (Output Device)
l Output devices are peripheral devices that enable users to view or hear the computer’s processed data
l Visual output – Text, graphics, and video
l Audio output – Sounds, music, and synthesized speech
Visual Display System is composed of two parts:
§ Video adapter – Responsible for video quality
§ Monitor – Displays the video adapter’s output
– A monitor is a peripheral device which displays computer output on a screen.
– Screen output is referred to as soft copy.
– Types of monitors:
§ Cathode-ray tube (CRT)
– Resembles televisions
– Uses picture tube technology
– Less expensive than a LCD monitor
– Takes up more desk space and uses more energy than LCD monitors
§ Liquid Crystal Display (LCD or flat-panel)
– Cells sandwiched between two transparent layers form images
– Used for notebook computers, PDAs, cellular phones, and personal computers
– More expensive than a CRT monitor
– Takes up less desk space and uses less energy than CRT monitors
– Types of LCD monitors:
ü Passive-matrix LCD
ü Active-matrix LCD
ü Gas plasma display
ü Field emission display
– Monitor Specifications
• Screen size – The diagonal measurement of the screen surface in inches (15, 17, 19, 21)
• Resolution – The sharpness of the image determined by the number of horizontal and vertical dots (pixels) that the screen can display (800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1600 x 1200)
• Refresh rate – The speed at which the screen is redrawn (refreshed) and measured in Hertz (Hz) (60Hz, 75Hz)
A printer is a peripheral device that produces a physical copy or hard copy of the computer’s output. Two basic types:
1. Impact printer;
• An impact printer is a printer that has a print head that contacts the paper to produce a character and It uses ink ribbon
• It is noisy, produces Near-letter quality printouts, and is not commonly used today
• Dot-matrix – Pins are used to make characters
2. Non-impact printer
The non-impact printer is the most commonly used printer today. It works quietly compared to an impact printer
a. Inkjet
– Inkjet printer, also called a bubble-jet, makes characters by inserting dots of ink onto paper
– Letter-quality printouts
– Cost of printer is inexpensive but ink is costly
b. Laser
– Laser printer works like a copier
– Quality determined by dots per inch (dpi) produced
– Color printers available
– High initial costs but cheaper to operate per page
